Maybelline: Volum' Express Magnum Mascara

I think I've been kind of lucky with every makeup that I've been trying lately. I know I've been mentioning a lot of Holy Grail products in my last few posts. And now I tell ya', here is yet another product that made it to my hit list! The Maybelline Volum' Express Magnum Mascara (waterproof)!

I have stubborn lashes that points straight downwards and most often than not, at the end of the day, my lashes would point back down even if I have curled them. In all honesty, I've never been really that crazy about mascaras. I guess it's because I don't really see such a dramatic difference when I apply it and nothing seems to hold the curls up. I have tried mascaras like Covergirl Lashblast. It didn't hold my lashes up either. I know that it worked for so many other girls, but sadly it didn't work for me.

I chanced upon Maybelline Volum' Express Magnum Mascara (waterproof) during a sale. And even if I was on a shopping ban, I got it on a whim because it was on a 10% OFF promo and from the original price of PHP 399, I got it for PHP 359 (around USD $8).

I also thought I needed to get a waterproof mascara for the wedding I'm going to attend to. Just because I wasn't really satisfied with the current one that I am using, which is the Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara. Aside from not being able to hold my curls up, I also felt it wasn't waterproof.

Maybelline Eyebrow Pencil by Eyestudio (Part 2)

I did a review about Maybelline Eyebrow Pencil by Eyestudio here and I was asked if I could do an FOTD using the brow pencil.

Today, I will show you how I usually apply my eyebrow pencil. I will post photos of how it looks like when I apply it alone and also when I top it with my Etude House Perfect Brow Kit.

Maybelline Eyebrow Pencil by Eyestudio

Hi everyone!

I would like to do a post about my first eyebrow pencil. I've never used pencil for my brows before so I can't really compare it with other pencils. But I'm going let you guys know what I think about it and I'll also include a swatch.

(Sorry if this photo is not as clear as the others, I quickly took a photo with my phone because I just realized I don't have a photo without the cap.)

My Attempt: Burgundy Plum Smokey Eyes

This is my first attempt to do an eye-makeup that is not neutral. I don't know if this is good enough. But I am quite happy with the result. =) The camera must've washed out the colors a bit because it didn't came out as vibrant as it's supposed to be. *sigh* But it's kinda close. Anyway here it is. Sorry if it's quite messy, I forgot to brush off the fallouts before taking a picture as I was in a hurry.

How I applied the eye makeup

After applying Too Faced Shadow insurance (eye primer), I applied a cream eyeshadow on my lid.

1.) I applied NYX eyeshadow in Burgundy Pearl on about 3/4 of my lid (starting from the inner corner) using my ELF eyeshadow brush.

2.) Using my fluffy NYX crease brush, I applied the deep dark plum shade from Loreal's HIP Duo in Sculpted on the outer part of my lid gently belnding it inwards and on my crease.

3.) Using the same brush and shade, I slightly dabbed the brush over the Burgundy Pearl color that I have applied on Step 1. Just to make the shade darker, but still leaving a hint of bright burgundy under it.

4.) Using my ELF blending brush, I applied the rosey plum color of Loreal's Hip Duo in Sculpted on the upper part of my crease blending it over the deep dark plum color I applied on Step 2.

5.) And for the highlight, I used my ELF blending brush and applied the color Heaven (matte cream) from the Too Faced Neutral Natural Eyeshadow Palette.

I applied some Maybelline Smooth & Vivid Eyeliner in Black on my upper and lower lashline. Then I curled my lashes and applied VMV Hypoallergenics Ooh-la-lash mascara.

Here are the brushes I used. Except for the crease brush, please ignore it. I didn't use it. I made a mistake in the pic, and I'm just too lazy to take another shot. lol.

So that's it. I would be very glad to receive comments or suggestions. I am new with the whole eyeshadow thing and I would love to learn from you guys. Thank you =)

Maybelline: Vivid & Smooth Liner by Eyestudio

So, I was running out of my usual Revlon Colorstay retractable eye liner. And the mall I went to was on sale a few weeks ago. So I thought of getting myself some. I browsed through the beauty section and found these eye pencils from Maybelline. I was hesitant at first, because I have never tried Maybelline eyeliners before and I was afraid that it wouldn't be as good as my HG pencil liner, Revlon Colorstay. But it was so cheap, PHP 395. Plus it was on sale, less 20% off (do the math). Compared to Revlon Colorstay (which I think is around PHP500 - PHP600) So I was like, why not? I'll give it a try... So yep, I swatched them and the colors were so so nice. Prior to buying these Maybelline eye pencils, I only have black and brown eyeliners, but I always wanted to try other colors. So looking at all those pretty colors made me want to buy ALL of them! But I stopped myself from doing so. Because I wanted to try it first and see if it doesn't smudge or bleed or whatever.. So yeah, I asked the saleslady if it was waterproof and she said yes.. So in the end I got two colors. My usual black and a pretty purple color.
And I've swatched them as well:

So what do I think about these? I have actually tried them a couple of times already. And I must say, I am deeply in love with them. I don't know but I feel like I might have to say goodbye to my Revlon Colorstay for now. LOL...

What I like about them is that they're so creamy and smooth to apply. With Revlon Colorstay (retractable), my skin gets tugged a little because it's not as smooth...

The lasting power is better than Revlon Colorstay, in my opinion. It darkened a little, on the outer corner of my lower lashline but that's a usual thing when I wear an eye pencil for too long (more than 6 hrs). But if I compare it to other eye pencils, it's not as bad as the others. It actually is so much better.. The only thing I really didn't like is that I have to sharpen it, yep I am that lazy. But other than that, it's just sooo good. This is probably going to be my new HG eye pencil.

Very good kitty!

UPDATE: Makeup Remover

1.) L'Oreal Dermo Expertise Gentle Lip & Eye Makeup Remover - I have made a review about this product before. And I know I said that I didn't really like it that much because it stings my eyes. But as I kept trying it out over and over for a couple of days, the sting just disappeared. Weird I know. Maybe my eyes got immuned to it. And also, about the flaking part, it doesn't I realized it was just my Liquid Eyeliner who's responsible for the annoying little specks. So since it doesn't sting me anymore, I really started to love it and been using it instead of the Neutrogena Deep Clean Makeup Remover. As you can see the bottle on the picture, I finished it all up. Lol. I will definitely repurchase again. I'm loving it now.
Rating: Good Good Kitty!

2.) Neutrogena Deep Clean Makeup Remover - I have mentioned on my earlier review that this one stings a little although it's bearable and I have been using it for my eyes too. But ever since my eyes stopped hurting from L'Oreals Dermo Expertise Make Up Remover, I stopped using this for my eyes and just used it to remove makeup all over my face and neck.
Rating: Good Kitty

3.) Maybelline Makeup Remover - I am pleased with this MU remover as well. It didn't sting my eyes at all. And I think it get rids of makeup just as well as L'Oreal does. The thing is, I think the price is PHP 20.00 higher than L'Oreal and I think the bottle is smaller. I am not certainly sure because I have already thrown out my empty L'Oreal bottle... Anyway this is a good product, but if L'Oreal doesn't sting my eyes anymore and it's cheaper and has more product, I'd probably just repurchase L'Oreal after I finish this bottle of Maybelline. They work the same for me but I gete more value for my money with L'Oreal.
Rating: Good Kitty!

4.) The Body Shop: Camomile Gentle Eye Make-up Remover - This one's oil free. I wanted to try this one out since my favorite oil free MU remover - The Face Shop: Herb Clear Lip & Eye Makeup Remover - has already been discountinued. So I got this one out and tried it on. It says on the packaging that it removes mascara in seconds. Tried it but it really didn't for me. I didn't really expect it to be as good as MU removers that has oil in them. And I didn't really mind that because I am not really gonna use this to get rid of all my makeup. Just gonna use it to make tinsy bit corrections when I put on my makeup... The sad thing is, just one time I tried this on to get rid of all my eye makeup. And it BURNED my eyes. It didn't just sting. It burned. It hurt a lot that I had to immediately wash it off with water. And after doing so, my eyes were red. =(I don't know why. Maybe my eyes needs to get immune to it just like the one from L'Oreal... Anyway that's okay, since I'm not really gonna use this as a total eye MU remover but just for corrections. So yeah. I think it's okay, although I still prefer the one I got from The Face Shop.

New Purchase!

This should've been posted like yonks ago. But anyways, here are the stuff I got last June 12, 2009. During SM's Independence Day sale. So yeah, I went because I wanted to get VMV Hypoallergenics' Armada Face and Body Shield SPF 60. VMV do not usually put discounts on their Armada line but that day it was 10% off. The regular price is PHP 1,380. And I got it for PHP 1,242 (less 138). My Mom and my sister loves this product so I was really excited about it. Sad thing is , it didn't work for me. I got the same tiny red bumps around my nose and also on my chin. I guess it's a sign of irritation or something. *sigh*

Anyway, I also got Maybelline's Clear Smooth Healthy Natural Concealer in Medium Sand. I think it retails for about PHP 425. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I got it at a 10% off too.. I do not regret buying it. I love it. It applies on really smoothly and it doesn't cake at all. So I am a happy happy kitty! =) I saw their little makeup remover (I forgot how much, I think it's around PHP 395 and it's also 10% off) too and I thought I'd try it. It wasn't bad either. It actually works fine just like the L'Oreal Dermo Expertise one. I know I mentioned before that I didn't like L'Oreal Dermo Expertise that much but it's weird. I'll tell you about it on my next post.

I'm kind of in a hurry so I'll be back later with another post. Just an update with my current makeup removers. =)

My Attempt: Smokey Brown Plum Eyes

I watch xteeener's youtube videos a lot. She's very creative and her tutorials are easy to follow *gulp*... Okay, I think it's really easy to follow, I guess I'm still so much of a newbie that I'm actually still struggling with blending and stuff. So anyway, here's my attempt to do the Smokey Brown Plum Eyes.

The Makeup I used:
1.
Elizabeth Arden Glimmer Cream in Gold
2. Maybelline Eyestudio Quad in Banana Split
3. Cover Girl Quad in Berry & Cream
4. Max Factor
Masterpiece - Volume and Definition Mascara
5. Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Black (forgot to take picture)

I used the Elizabeth Arden Glimmer Cream as my base. And for my lid, I used the darkest purple from my Cover Girl Quad. The dark chocolate color from Maybelline Quad is the one I used for my outer crease. I also used the cream colored shadow with gold undertones from the Maybelline Quad, and I used it for my highlight.

The Outcome
:
Okaaayyyy, so I'm not really that disappointed but I'm not satisfied. I really think the eye shadows didn't blend so well. There are still these stubborn harsh edges that I can't get rid of. The eye shadows were not cooperating with me. =D

I tried so very freaking hard to blend it perfectly with my crease brush but it didn't seem to work. I don't know. Maybe, it was the base I used? Or maybe I should've used an eye primer first. Or maybe it's just really me. LOL. And oftentimes I'd really struggle to make both shadows on both eyes look even, especially the ones on the outer crease. They usually end up looking different so I have to like keep adjusting til my lid aches from the brush! x( But oh well, I'm glad I was able to do something like this. I was always afraid of blending shadow colors because I didn't know how to. I'm actually surprised I was able to do something like this. I know it's not perfect but I think it's not bad for a struggling makeup newbie like me. =D So that's it.
