The Eyeliner Experiment

So how good is an eyeshadow primer in helping your eyeliner from smearing?
I never really knew the answer until I tried it myself. I say (based on my experience), it does help more than setting my eyeliner pencil with a matching eyeshadow...

Just a little background:
  • The skin around my eye area is normal (I think). But it tends to be a little oily in a hot weather and sometimes it tends to be a dry in a cold weather.
  • I live in a hot and humid weather.
  • No problem with eyeliner smudging on my upper lash line. But the smearing under my lower lash line, especially the ones on the outer corner is just CRAZY.
I am currently using Too Faced Shadow Insurance, my first and the only eyeshadow primer that i have ever used so I can't compare to other similar products. I decided to get this over Urban Decay Shadow Primer because I heard UDPP tends to make the skin a little too dry. My eye area does get dry sometimes so I would stay away from something that would make it drier.. One more reason why I chose TFSI is because of the packaging. TFSI is more hygienic and no problem with finishing the product because of the tube packaging. Just squeeze. While I heard a lot of people where having a problem with UDPP trying to get all the product from it because of how the bottle is shaped. A lot of left-overs inside so you're gonna have to cut the bottle to finish it all up. Although, I think now UDPP has released it with a new wand which I suppose would help you get more product from the bottle.

Anyway, on with the experiment. Here's how it went.

1.) The Revlon Colorstay w/o Too Faced Shadow Insurance experiment

Below is the BEFORE picture. I took it right after I have applied Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner Pencil on both my upper and lower lash line. No Too Faced Shadow Insurance was applied.

Approximately after 6 hours, here's the result. I did a couple of touch-ups throughout the day. No problem with the upper lash line. But see the lower lash line, especially the one on the outer corner. It bled and smudged. And it's gross. =( I wasn't able to do some touch-up before I took the picture so as you can see, the eyeliner's almost faded on my waterline.

2.) The Revlon Colorstay w/ Too Faced Shadow Insurance experiment

Using a tiny dot of Too Faced Shadow Insurance for both my lower lash line.

Below is the BEFORE picture. I applied TFSI under my lower lash line and used Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner Pencil on both my upper and lower lash line.

Approximately after 6 hours, here's the result. I did a couple of touch-ups throughout the day. No problem with the upper lash line. The lower lash line do not appear as gross as the first experiment. Although, you would notice there's a little bit of darkening on the lower lash line. There were also a bit of black specks which I accidentally removed before I got home (I just suddenly forgot about the whole experiment I'm doing). I don't know if that came from my eyeliner or my mascara, but I'm guessing it's the mascara. I did some touch up before I took the pic so you'll notice it's not as faded as the first experiment. And also, I noticed that sometimes the outer corner tends to get darker than the one below. I don't know, I guess it depends on how long you wear it and how hot/humid the weather is.

3.) The MAC Fluidline w/o Too Faced Shadow Insurance experiment

Below is the BEFORE picture. I used MAC Fluidline in blacktrack as my eyeliner without the use of Too Faced Shadow Insurance.

Approximately after 9 hours, here's the result. No touch ups was made throughout the day. It did fade, but you can still see it on my waterline which is good. Pencils don't stay that long. You will also notice a slight darkening on my lower line especially on the outer corner part. Almost unnoticeable.

4.) The MAC Fluidline w/ Too Faced Shadow Insurance experiment

Below is the BEFORE picture. I used MAC Fluidline in blacktrack as my eyeliner. I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance. A small dot of TFSI is enough for both lower lash line.

Approximately after 9 hours, , 's the result. No touch ups was made throughout the day. Can you even tell the difference from the BEFORE picture? Yes it might have faded a little bit but it didn't smudge, and there's no darkening. Maybe a little but I don't even notice it.

Note: I know a lot are saying that using MAC Fluidline on your waterline may not be safe. But I have tried it a couple of times and it didn't irritate my eyes or anything. So it's up to you guys if you would want to use it on your waterline or not. I'm also quite hesitant about it but I just tend to give in. Because it stays and it doesn't even budge... But I guess I'll probably be just using this occassionally like when I know I'd really be needing some staying power.

So that's all. Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed this post. I'm quite busy these days with a lot of things. =( Hopefully I could post more soon.

New purchase and some reviews

Hi everyone! Here are the stuff I have acquired lately.

1.) Revlon Matte Lipstick
2.) Skin Food Nail Polish
3.) The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye Make-up Remover

Plus I've purchased Olay Total Effects Night Cream (which I forgot to include in the picture) about 3 weeks ago I think

What I think about them...

By the way, instead of the usual 5 stars rating, I will be using Bad Kitty, Good Kitty, Very Good Kitty, and so on for my rating. LOL. Just for fun. I got that from my nephews. When someone's mean they always say "bad kitty" and I thought it's funny... Anyway okay enough rambling, here's goes my mini review:

1.) Revlon Matte Lipstick in Mauve it over - I went to the mall last Monday and looked around the Health and Beauty corner of the department store. And I was surprised to see that they already have Revlon's Matte Lipstick! Anyways, I originally wanted to try the Nude Attitude shade because I don't have any lipstick with that kind of nude shade yet. I tried it on but it looked like I just ate a whole kilo of dried watermelon seed. LOL. It looked too pale that I don't think it matched my skin tone at all. So yeah, I tried other colors and I ended up liking Mauve it over. It's a neutral pink with a bit of a peach shade and it suites my lip color well. I love how it doesn't dry out my lips as much as my other matte lipstick. It's my new fave lipstick!
Rating: Good Good Kitty

2.) Skin Food Nail Polish - Got them for PHP 185 each. In colors black, red and glittery dark purple. I actually still have my The Face Shop nail polish in black and red but they have become too thick and gooey already. Bad kitty. Is it okay to put a nail polish remover to make it okay again?.. Anyways, about the Skin Food Nail Polish I got, I just bought them yesterday and I haven't tried them out yet. So I can't really rate them yet. I will, next time.=)

3.) The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye Make-up Remover - Because The Face Shop has already discontinued their Herb Clear Lip & Eye Make-up Remover (my favorite oil-free make-up remover that I use when I make small corrections on make-up), I thought I'd try this one. The bottle didn't indicate that it's oil-free, so I asked the SA and she said it's oil-free. Hmmm. I just got this today for PHP 405 (original price was PHP 450, 10% off). I will post a review once I have tried it out.

4.) Olay Total Effects Night Cream - I wanted to try a cheaper alternative of an anti-aging moisturizer (for night time). So I got this one from Olay. I think I got it for PHP 695 or PHP 699. It claims to diminish the 7 signs of aging (fine lines, age spots and more). I tried it out the first night and I loved how lightweight this cream is. It didn't leave my skin sticky, instead it felt so smooth. It has a bit of a flowery smell but it's not too overpowering so it's okay.. I was happy about it, so I went on and used it again the next night. The morning I woke up, I noticed tiny red bumps around my nose area and my chin. *sigh*. I thought of giving my skin a break and after a week I tried it out again and it gave the same reaction. I guess this one's not for me. I really wanted it to work but too bad. =(
Rating: Very Bad Kitty

So that's it for now. Til my next post! =)

My Attempt: Smokey Brown Plum Eyes

I watch xteeener's youtube videos a lot. She's very creative and her tutorials are easy to follow *gulp*... Okay, I think it's really easy to follow, I guess I'm still so much of a newbie that I'm actually still struggling with blending and stuff. So anyway, here's my attempt to do the Smokey Brown Plum Eyes.

The Makeup I used:
1.
Elizabeth Arden Glimmer Cream in Gold
2. Maybelline Eyestudio Quad in Banana Split
3. Cover Girl Quad in Berry & Cream
4. Max Factor
Masterpiece - Volume and Definition Mascara
5. Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Black (forgot to take picture)

I used the Elizabeth Arden Glimmer Cream as my base. And for my lid, I used the darkest purple from my Cover Girl Quad. The dark chocolate color from Maybelline Quad is the one I used for my outer crease. I also used the cream colored shadow with gold undertones from the Maybelline Quad, and I used it for my highlight.

The Outcome
:
Okaaayyyy, so I'm not really that disappointed but I'm not satisfied. I really think the eye shadows didn't blend so well. There are still these stubborn harsh edges that I can't get rid of. The eye shadows were not cooperating with me. =D

I tried so very freaking hard to blend it perfectly with my crease brush but it didn't seem to work. I don't know. Maybe, it was the base I used? Or maybe I should've used an eye primer first. Or maybe it's just really me. LOL. And oftentimes I'd really struggle to make both shadows on both eyes look even, especially the ones on the outer crease. They usually end up looking different so I have to like keep adjusting til my lid aches from the brush! x( But oh well, I'm glad I was able to do something like this. I was always afraid of blending shadow colors because I didn't know how to. I'm actually surprised I was able to do something like this. I know it's not perfect but I think it's not bad for a struggling makeup newbie like me. =D So that's it.
